Meet the Mind Behind the Magic: Ms. Armie and Kabayan Filipino Market

My name is Armie, and I am the owner of Kabayan Filipino Market.

I was born and raised in Angeles City, Pampanga, and moved to the United States with my family in 2005. I come from a big family, with one sister and four brothers. It has been our dream to come to the United States, hoping for a better life. It has been an awesome and tough journey. But at the end of the day, the thing that we hold on to that brings us memories of home is food.

We named our market Kabayan (ka+bayan): Ka means “Co,” and Bayan means “fellow countryman or countrywoman” (meaning comes from the same country as my fellow Pinoys). Kabayan Filipino Market is a 100% woman-owned small business that provides “authentic Filipino products,” such as souvenirs, pastries, household items, and “chichirya,” the classic snacks of the Philippines.

For over a decade, I had been perplexed as to why so few Filipino products were widely known and accessible in our community. Kabayan Filipino Market aims to provide you with the most convenient and pleasant experience to get a taste of what the Philippines has to offer. One thing is guaranteed, whoever you are, wherever you are, we all have something in common, which is our love for food.
